Duino - Dama Bianca is a small artificial pebble beach adjoining public facilities in the municipality of Duino-Aurisina, Trieste region. The bathing water is classified as excellent based on monitoring data from 2015-2018, with water quality assessments conducted regularly. The beach is located along coastal marine waters in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region of northeastern Italy.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent (reference years 2015–2018). Escherichia coli 90th percentile: 143 CFU/100 ml; 95th percentile: 222 CFU/100 ml. Intestinal enterococci 90th percentile: 38 CFU/100 ml; 95th percentile: 59 CFU/100 ml. Water quality was excellent in 2015, downgraded to good in 2016, remained good in 2017, and was reclassified as excellent in 2018. In 2016, one exceedance of limits was recorded in June due to heavy rainfall. No exceedances were recorded in 2015, 2017, or 2018. Short-duration pollution events are possible during unfavourable weather conditions. No cyanobacteria blooms have been reported. No toxic algal proliferation has been detected.

Risks

Possible short-duration contamination from unfavourable weather conditions causing coastal runoff and sewer overflow activation. Pollution source identified as Duino wastewater treatment plant, diverted to Sistiana treatment plant in 2018.
