Sistiana - Sotto il Camping is a pebble beach located in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region near Duino-Aurisina in the province of Trieste. Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excellent (reference years 2015–2018). Escherichia coli at 90th percentile: 37 CFU/100ml, at 95th percentile: 48 CFU/100ml. Intestinal enterococci at 90th percentile: 19 CFU/100ml, at 95th percentile: 29 CFU/100ml. No quality variations were observed during the 2015–2018 bathing seasons.

Risks

The Sistiana wastewater treatment plant with submarine pipeline is a potential source of pollution at long distance (1.5 nautical miles). Short-term pollution events can occur following heavy and brief rainfall, causing coastal runoff, groundwater presence, and sewer overflow activation. One exceedance of limits occurred in June 2016 following intense thunderstorms with heavy rainfall; this event resolved within 24 hours. No short-term pollution events were recorded in 2017 and 2018. Cyanobacterial proliferation phenomena have never been reported. No toxic algal proliferation cases have been detected.
