Location

Duino-Aurisina municipality, province of Trieste, Friuli Venezia Giulia region. Centre coordinates: 45.770809°N, 13.610407°E. The bathing area extends 1.743 km along the coast.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (reference years 2015-2018). Escherichia coli (90th percentile): 41 CFU/100ml, (95th percentile): 54 CFU/100ml. Intestinal enterococci (90th percentile): 23 CFU/100ml, (95th percentile): 36 CFU/100ml. No quality variations were observed during the 2015-2018 bathing seasons. Two treatment plants discharge via submarine pipeline: Duino treatment plant (conveyed to Sistiana plant as of 2018) and Sistiana treatment plant, with potential long-distance impacts.

Risks

No short-duration pollution events were recorded in 2015-2018. No cyanobacterial eutrophication phenomena have been reported. No toxic algal blooms or elevated concentrations of potentially toxic species have been detected in the past four years.
