The Cancho del Fresno reservoir bathing zone is located in the municipality of Cañamero in Extremadura, Spain, approximately 1 km north of the town. The bathing area is situated within the Villuercas Ibores Jara Geopark and features a small pebble and sandy beach with access via an artificial ramp. The surrounding landscape is characterized by riverine vegetation dominated by alder trees, ash, and willows, with extensive pine and cork oak forests in the upland areas. The zone supports rich biodiversity including endangered species such as the black stork and Eurasian otter.

Water

The Cancho del Fresno reservoir is an artificial lake on the Ruecas River, a low-mountain Mediterranean river with siliceous geology. The water body is classified as a highly modified lake mass. The riverbed comprises small stones and fine sands. The bathing beach is composed of small pebbles and sandy earth.

Location

Located in the municipality of Cañamero, Cáceres province, Extremadura, Spain, approximately 1 km north of Cañamero town. Access via the CC-21.1 road towards Berzocana, turning right onto CC-21.3 after 200 m, then continuing on an asphalt road marked with signs for the ZEPA Sierra de las Villuercas Interpretation Centre and Cancho del Fresno Dam. The bathing zone is reached by continuing 300 m beyond the dam on a dirt track. No parking facility is available.

Facilities

Informational signage is available. The following facilities are not available: parking, lifeguard posts, bars or shops, snack areas, toilets, showers, swimming pools, boat landing facilities, recreational zones, barbecue areas, waste baskets, or containers. Domestic animals are not permitted.
