Endelave Søndermølle is a bathing beach located on the south side of Endelave island in Denmark. The beach extends approximately 500 metres and consists of a sandy area about 10–15 metres wide. The water bottom is predominantly sandy with few larger stones, sloping evenly into deeper water. The bathing water is classified as Good based on data from the previous year and three preceding bathing seasons.

Water

Coastal bathing water with a sandy bottom and few larger stones. The beach extends approximately 500 metres with a sand area 10–15 metres wide. Water depth increases evenly. Salinity is approximately 2.4 per cent. Current direction on the south side of Endelave is typically east–west.

Location

The beach is located on the south side of Endelave island. Access is via Søndermølle. The beach can be reached by walking along the harbour pier. An information board is stationed at the end of Søndermølle. The surrounding hinterland consists mainly of grazing areas.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Good. This classification is based on data from the previous year and three preceding bathing seasons. Historical wastewater pollution from septic tanks of properties outside the town ceased in 2014 when these properties were connected to Endelave's new treatment plant. Pollution from grazing livestock is not considered significant. Monitoring comprises 10 samples taken in 2023 with supervision of the sandy beach.

Risks

Large accumulations of macroalgae (seaweed) can occur at the water's edge, and swimming is not recommended in their vicinity because decaying seaweed can produce toxic substances and can harbour disease-causing bacteria that survive longer without UV exposure. Risk of cyanobacteria blooms is assessed as low. Risk of phytoplankton growth is assessed as low. Glass fragments, waste, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occasionally occur.
