Øvre (syd) is a bathing beach on the eastern side of Endelave island, approximately 1.5 km long with sand mixed with gravel and stones. The beach extends 10–20 metres wide, with sand and scattered stones extending 50–100 metres into the water. The surrounding area is a protected natural reserve comprising beach plains, plantations, heathland, marshes, and small lakes. The water has been classified as excellent quality based on data from the previous year and three preceding bathing seasons.

Water

Marine bathing area. The beach is approximately 1.5 km long and 10–20 metres wide. Water depth increases gradually. Salinity is approximately 2.4 per cent. The substrate consists of sand mixed with gravel and stones in the beach area, with sand and scattered stones extending 50–100 metres offshore.

Location

Located on Øvre on the east side of Endelave, approximately 2 km from Øverste Ende, which is the northernmost point of the island. Access is via Kongevejen and Øvre road to the east. Parking is available. An information sign is posted at the sampling station.

Facilities

Information sign at the sampling station. Public access permitted on foot, by horse, or by bicycle.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent. Water quality assessment is based on data from the previous year and three preceding bathing seasons. No significant pollution sources identified in the vicinity of the monitoring station.

Risks

Macroalgae (seaweed) may occur at the water's edge. Swimming is discouraged near large accumulations of macroalgae due to the potential formation of toxins in decaying seaweed and the protection of disease-causing bacteria from UV rays. Risk of phytoplankton growth is assessed as low. Occasional occurrences of glass fragments, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills are possible.
