Erleac'h Beach is a bathing site located in the commune of Saint-Pabu in Brittany, France. The beach profile was established in February 2023 following Directive 2006/7/CE requirements to identify pollution sources and their impact on bathing water quality. The study includes geomorphological and meteorological-oceanographic characteristics, hydrological data, ecological sensitivity assessment, and water quality monitoring results. A management plan and action plan were developed to preserve or improve water quality at the site.

Coastal bathing water at Erleac'h Beach. The site is characterized by tidal amplitude, tidal currents, wind-induced waves, and summer temperatures typical of the Breton coast near Brest.

Location

Saint-Pabu commune, Brittany, France. The municipal authority office is located at 49 rue du Bourg, 29830 Saint-Pabu.

Facilities

An information sign is displayed at the beach access. Signage indicating prohibition of extended camper-van parking and prohibition of animals is present.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored using two bacteriological parameters: intestinal enterococci and Escherichia coli. Classification follows Directive 2006/7/CE standards. Exceedances of bacterial parameters have been recorded and documented through historical monitoring campaigns from 2014 to 2022, with ARS (regional health authority) sampling results from the 2022 season analyzed.

Risks

Bacterial contamination from E. coli and enterococci has been identified. Potential pollution sources are present and have been inventoried, including analysis of contamination episodes and spatial distribution of pollution events.
