Ertebølle Strand

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Ertebølle strand is a narrow beach approximately 450 metres long, consisting of small stones and sand with grass and plants growing down to the water's edge. The beach is lightly used, primarily by campers and residents of nearby summer houses. Water depths vary across the beach. The beach has been one of the municipality's five White Flag beaches for many years, with consistently good and stable water quality.

Water

Coastal water body with alternating sand and stone substrate, and seaweed in the southern end. Water has varying depths as shown on overview maps. Current is normally weak and typically follows wind direction.

Location

The beach is located north of Hvalpsund camping. Access is available from a small car park at the end of Illeris and directly from the camping site. An information board is installed at the car park. Hvalpsund, a port and ferry town with shops and restaurants, is approximately 1 kilometre to the southwest.

Facilities

Information board at the car park. Lifeguards, toilets, showers, and disabled access are not mentioned.

Water Quality

The beach holds White Flag classification and has maintained good and stable water quality over many years. The monitoring station is located at the drainage outlet. No measurements indicate that drainage pipes are contaminated with wastewater or significantly affect bathing water quality.

Risks

Seaweed occasionally accumulates and washes ashore; bathing is discouraged near significant seaweed quantities due to potential toxin production in decaying seaweed and protection of disease-causing bacteria from UV rays. Risk of cyanobacteria blooms is not known in recent times. Risk of phytoplankton growth is assessed as very low.
