Trend Strand is a bathing beach located in Bjørnsholm Bay comprising three designated bathing areas. Bathing area 1, the main beach, extends approximately 1,000 metres and is approximately 25 metres wide, consisting almost entirely of fine sand that continues gradually into the water. Bathing area 2 is occasionally contaminated with bacteria from organic material in the bay and bathing is discouraged there. Bathing area 3 is little used and is not monitored.

Water

The bathing water is in Bjørnsholm Bay, the innermost part of which forms the beach. The fine sandy seabed descends gradually. Water currents are normally weak and typically follow wind direction.

Location

Trend Strand is located immediately west of a large summer house area in Vesthimmerlands Kommune, Denmark, approximately 5 kilometres south of Ranum and north of Strandby. Bathing area 1 is located at Gl. Amtsvej 30. Bathing area 2 is located at Viborgvej 552b. A car park with toilet facilities is located at the centre of the beach.

Facilities

Car park with toilet building. Information board at the new surf station and toilet facility providing information about local attractions and beach and water conditions. Beach cleaning is performed several times during the season.

Water Quality

Bathing area 1 is currently unclassified but has historically maintained good water quality and met Blue Flag standards. Bathing in bathing area 2 is discouraged due to occasional bacterial contamination originating from organic material in the bay to the south. Bathing area 3 is not monitored. Water quality classification is based on four years of analysis results and is calculated and revised annually in May.

Risks

Bathing area 2 is occasionally contaminated with bacteria from organic material. No knowledge of cyanobacteria blooms in recent times. Risk of phytoplankton growth is assessed as very small. Seaweed occasionally washes onto the beach; bathing is discouraged when large quantities are present as decomposing seaweed can produce toxins and protect disease-causing bacteria from ultraviolet radiation.
