Færker Odde Strand is a bathing beach approximately 1.7 kilometres long located on the north side of Fur at Favnedyb. The beach and seabed consist primarily of stones and gravel with a beach width of 8 to 10 metres. The bathing water is classified as excellent quality, the highest classification possible under bathing water regulations, based on monitoring data from 2016 to 2019 for E. coli and enterococci.

Water

Brackish to saltwater area at Favnedyb. Water temperature varies between 10°C and 22°C during the bathing season. The beach extends approximately 1.7 kilometres and the seabed consists primarily of stones and gravel.

Location

Færker Odde Strand is located at Færkeroddevej, 7884 Fur, on the north side of Fur. Two car parks are available: one at the western end of the beach near the summer house area and one at the eastern end near the headland. Several footpaths lead to the beach from the summer house area.

Facilities

Two car parks, bathing pier, tables and benches, waste bins, toilet. Dogs must be kept on a lead from 1 April to 30 September.

Monitoring occurs during the bathing season. Dogs must be kept on a lead from 1 April to 30 September.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent, the highest classification under bathing water regulations. Classification is based on E. coli and enterococci data from 2016 to 2019. Possible pollution sources include faecal contamination from dispersed settlements and summer houses, emptying of toilet tanks from pleasure boats, algae (blue-green algae, other microscopic algae, and seaweed), oxygen depletion, chemical pollution from vessels or oil spills, invasive species (Pacific oysters and zebra mussels), and pollen accumulations.

Risks

Risk of mass occurrences of microscopic algae (other than blue-green algae) during the bathing season. Blue-green algae risk is low due to high salinity. Low risk of seaweed accumulation, oxygen depletion, chemical pollution, and large quantities of Pacific oysters. Pollen accumulations are a recurring phenomenon that can locally cause poor bathing water quality. Faecal contamination from summer house wastewater is low risk; risk from emptying toilet tanks from pleasure boats is low.
