Stistrup Strand

Stistrup Strand is a beach approximately 700 metres long consisting of sand and stones, with the highest concentration of stones at the northern end. The beach is very shallow, with water depth increasing only gradually—at 250 metres offshore the depth is approximately 1 metre. The beach is used by camping guests, secondary school students, and tourists. The beach is located in the eastern bay of Risgårde Bredning.

Water

Shallow coastal water in the eastern bay of Risgårde Bredning. The beach is 700 metres long and 10–15 metres wide at normal water level. The seabed consists mainly of sand with occasional stone banks. Water depth reaches approximately 1 metre at 250 metres offshore. There is normally little current, with flow typically following wind direction.

Location

The nearest larger town is Farsø, approximately 6.5 kilometres to the east. The beach is located east of Viborgvej. Parking is available at a car park approximately 75 metres from the beach on Viborgvej, where an information board, tables, and benches are provided. Stistrup village, Farsø Efterskole, and Stistrup Camping are located east of Viborgvej.

Water Quality

The bathing water has not yet been classified. Classification will be determined based on four years of analysis results according to applicable regulations. Possible classifications are: Excellent quality, Good quality, Satisfactory quality, and Poor quality. Analyses over many years show occasional short-term pollution events during the summer half-year, typically occurring during heavy rain and strong westerly winds when wastewater from Stistrup treatment plant is not quickly discharged into deeper fjord areas.

Risks

Short-term pollution events may occur during heavy rain and strong westerly winds from the west. Stistrup treatment plant discharge outlet is located 300 metres offshore approximately 400 metres south of the bathing area. Stistrup stream discharges approximately 200 metres south of the beach. Seaweed (macroalgae) may be washed ashore during storms; bathing is discouraged in areas with large quantities of seaweed due to potential toxin formation in decaying seaweed and its protective effect on disease-causing bacteria from UV radiation. No knowledge of blue-green algae blooms in recent times. Risk of phytoplankton growth is assessed as very low.
