Sunde Strand is a bathing beach approximately 150 metres long located at Stenøre on the south side of Fur island, just north of the ferry landing. The beach has a sandy bottom with gravel, stones, and shells, and is very shallow with a distance of approximately 70 metres from the shore to a depth of 2 metres. The beach near the bathing bridge features a section approximately 2 metres wide with sand and stones, while further away the sandy beach is narrower with grass extending to the water's edge. The area is characterized by the fjord's hydrological conditions and receives water flowing from the western part of Limfjorden.

Water

Saltwater fjord beach. The beach extends approximately 150 metres. The seabed is sandy with gravel, stones, and shells. The beach is very shallow with approximately 70 metres distance from the shore to 2 metres depth. Water temperature varies between 10 °C and 22 °C during the bathing season. The prevailing surface current direction is from west to east but varies depending on conditions in Fur Sound and wind conditions.

Location

Sunde Strand is located at Stenøre 18A, 7884 Fur, accessed from Sundevej via a side road leading to Stenøre. Parking is available at a green area near the bathing bridge and at a parking lot on Sundevej above the harbour.

Facilities

Bathing bridge, boat slipway for small boats, waste bins, tables and benches on the harbour, lifeguard station on the harbour, toilets on the harbour.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as 'excellent', the highest classification according to bathing water regulations, based on data from 2016–2019 for E. coli and enterococci. Bathing water analysis from the municipality over the past 5 years shows very stable conditions with low bacterial levels.

Risks

Large risk of mass blooms of various species of microscopic algae during the bathing season. Recurring phenomenon of pollen accumulations which can cause poor bathing water quality. Risk of Pacific oysters (invasive species) on the beach. Low risk of fecal contamination, manure discharge, oxygen depletion, chemical contamination from ships, and seaweed/eelgrass accumulation. Very low risk of cyanobacteria mass occurrence due to high salinity in the area. Seaweed and eelgrass can accumulate in the central part of Limfjorden and wash ashore at Sunde.
