Three beaches located on the Seignosse coast in southwestern France: Plage des Bourdaines, Plage des Estagnots VVF, and Plage des Estagnots. The beaches are situated over 4 kilometers from the town center in a developed tourist area with dune zones and residential development behind the shore. Sandy beaches with variable daily attendance ranging from 2,000 to 12,000 visitors depending on the location and day of the week.

Water

Atlantic Ocean coastal beaches with sandy substrates. Water circulation dominated by north-south currents influenced by wave-driven circulation. Subject to strong Atlantic swells, particularly in autumn and winter, generated by depressions carried by the Gulf Stream.

Location

Seignosse, Landes department, Aquitaine region, approximately 24 kilometers northeast of Bayonne. Access via paved road with parking available at Bourdaines and Estagnots beaches; VVF beach has limited access. Beach facilities located at Seignosse-Océan, more than 4 kilometers from the town center.

Facilities

Beach clubs and refreshment stands on all beaches except VVF. Showers and toilets at Bourdaines and Estagnots beaches; none at VVF beach. Permanent rescue posts at Bourdaines and Estagnots; none at VVF. Daily garbage collection with bins on beaches. Information signage located near rescue posts. Limited accessibility for persons with reduced mobility. Animals prohibited in designated bathing zones.

Season

Early July to late August for all three beaches.

Water Quality

Classified as Grade A (good quality water) from 2009–2012 for Bourdaines beach. Simulated 2006 Directive classification indicates excellent water quality. 2012 monitoring showed 1 non-conformity for E. coli above guideline values (100 UFC/100 ml) out of 10 total analyses. Since 2000, E. coli exceeded guideline values in 6.2% of 130 analyses; no results exceeded imperative values. Autocontrol in 2012 showed zero non-conformities from 9 analyses.

Risks

Suspended sand from the sandy substrate stirred up by wave action affecting water transparency. Strong Atlantic swells in autumn and winter. Coastal erosion dynamics. Animals restricted in bathing zones.
