Excelsior is a bathing area located in Trieste, Friuli Venezia Giulia, in the Barcola area. It comprises a small pebble beach belonging to some residential properties. The bathing area is bordered by a concrete quay with breakwaters.

Trieste, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy. Coordinates: 45.679615°N, 13.750224°E. The bathing area extends 0.801 km along the coast.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (reference years 2015–2018). Escherichia Coli (90th percentile): 25 CFU/100ml; Escherichia Coli (95th percentile): 31 CFU/100ml. Intestinal Enterococci (90th percentile): 20 CFU/100ml; Intestinal Enterococci (95th percentile): 31 CFU/100ml. No quality variations were observed for the bathing seasons 2015–2018.

Risks

Potential impact from Servola treatment plant via submarine outfall (long-distance impact) and Barcola treatment plant via submarine outfall (conveyed to Servola plant from 2016). No cyanobacterial eutrophic phenomena have been reported. No cases of potentially toxic algal proliferation have been detected.
