Diga Vecchia Nord - Diga Foranea del Porto Franco Vecchio is a coastal bathing area located on the outer side of a breakwater equipped with a bathing establishment. The bathing area extends approximately 0.549 square kilometres and is characterized by a concrete embankment with wave barriers. Water quality has been classified as good for the reference years 2015–2018, with quality maintained as good through 2019.

Location

Trieste, Friuli Venezia Giulia region, Italy. The bathing area is located at the old harbour (porto vecchio) area of Trieste, with the outer side of the breakwater equipped as a bathing establishment.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: good (reference years 2015–2018 under Legislative Decree 116/08). Escherichia coli (90th percentile): 262 CFU/100 ml; Escherichia coli (95th percentile): 479 CFU/100 ml. Intestinal enterococci (90th percentile): 46 CFU/100 ml; intestinal enterococci (95th percentile): 77 CFU/100 ml. Quality remained stable from 2014–2017, declined from excellent to good in 2018, and remained good in 2019. Potential pollution sources include the Servola wastewater treatment plant with submarine outfall, the old port area, and the Rivo Montorsino stream.

Risks

Short-duration pollution events occurred in April 2018 and September 2018, traced to drainage issues in the sewer collector of the upper zone at the Servola treatment plant. No cyanobacterial bloom phenomena have been reported. No toxic algal species proliferation has been detected.
