Falkebroen

Falkebroen is a pebbly sand beach located at Tejn, approximately 200 meters east of Tejn Harbour on the island of Bornholm. The beach sits at the base of a small rocky cove and spans roughly 100 metres. The seabed off the beach consists of stones and rocks, with water depth increasing rapidly from shore outwards. A bathing ladder is installed on the rocks during the season.

Location

Located at Tejn, approximately 200 metres east of Tejn Harbour, Bornholm. Access is via Østvej from Tejn Harbour. Parking and public toilets are available at the harbour. Restaurants and shops are located in Tejn.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as 'excellent' based on monitoring data from 2016–2019. Monitoring data from many years shows good water quality. Nearest potential pollution sources are emergency overflows from sewage pump stations serving the Tejn treatment plant, which only function during power failures or emergencies. The Tejn treatment plant is a modern biological/chemical facility serving multiple towns. Discharge occurs to Ålebæk stream, which empties immediately west of Tejn.

Risks

Blue-green algae blooms (Nodosaria spumigena, Aphanizomenon flos-aqua) occur annually in the surrounding Baltic Sea, particularly in July–August during warm, calm, sunny periods. Algae can form toxic substances; ingestion should be avoided. Young children and dogs should avoid bathing in areas with heavy algae accumulation. Seaweed and macroalgae periodically wash ashore, causing seaweed odour and aesthetic issues. Warning signage will be posted if beach contamination is suspected.
