Lindholm Fiske- og Badebro is a bathing area located on the north side of Limfjorden in Nørresundby, integrated into Aalborg Municipality's green structure along the fjord. The bathing station is positioned on a promontory at the southwestern side of Lindholm Strandpark, approximately 0.5 km west of Nørresundby town centre. The area features a pier approximately 17 m long and 4 m wide at its widest point, with stone and sand bottom conditions and depths ranging from 1–2 m along the pier to 3–4 m at the pier's end.

Water

Limfjorden, a marine fjord. Typical salinity 22–30 ‰. Water depths along the pier 1–2 m, increasing to 3–4 m at the pier's end and approximately 11 m in the fjord centre. Bottom conditions are stony and sandy. Current direction is variable but predominantly eastward and can be very strong.

Nørresundby, on the north side of Limfjorden. Located approximately 0.5 km west of Nørresundby town centre at Lindholm Strandpark. Facilities include life jackets, waste bins, and a toilet building at Lindholm Badestrand, situated adjacent to the pier.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on data from bathing seasons 2020–2023. Monitoring is conducted during the bathing season for E. coli and intestinal enterococci. Possible pollution sources include two recreational boat harbours (approximately 300 m and 1 km away), Lindholm Å stream (approximately 1 km away with rainwater discharges), rainwater surface runoff discharges (U0.0.01, U0.0.04, U0.0.06, U0.0.08, U0.0.21, U0.0.22), and diluted wastewater discharges (U0.0.19, U0.0.20, U0.0.25, U0.0.26). Bacterial contamination from mixed sewage overflows can reach millions of coliforms per 100 ml but decreases rapidly.

Risks

Macroalgae (seaweed) can occur at the water's edge; bathing is not recommended near large accumulations due to potential toxin production and bacterial protection from UV radiation. Risk of cyanobacteria blooms in Limfjorden, which can cause skin irritation and poisoning if contaminated water is ingested. Risk of phytoplankton blooms due to relatively high nutrient content. Persistent sea foam on the shore may contain PFAS and algae and should be avoided. Glass fragments, waste, chemical pollution including oil spills can occasionally occur. Bacterial content may be elevated within 2–3 days after rainfall.
