Water

Limfjorden, a brackish fjord environment. The bathing area shoreline extends 250 meters with 0-meter beach width. Seabed composition is sand with stones. Water depth approximately 2 meters at 50 meters from shore and approximately 5 meters at 100 meters from shore. Typical salinity ranges from 22–30 ‰. Dominant current direction flows toward the east.

Water Quality

Classified as excellent based on monitoring data from bathing seasons 2020–2023. Water samples are analyzed during the bathing season for E. coli and intestinal enterococci indicator bacteria. Bacterial content can spike following rainfall within 2–3 days due to rainwater and combined sewer overflows containing high bacterial loads (millions of coliforms per 100 ml). Bacteria decline rapidly afterward.

Risks

Possible macroalgae (seaweed) accumulation in the shoreline; risk of cyanobacteria blooms in Limfjorden, which can cause skin irritation and toxins if ingested in large quantities; risk of phytoplankton blooms due to relatively high nutrient content; persistent sea foam may contain PFAS and algae; glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occasionally occur.
