Foce Fiume Ofanto 100 MT SN is a sandy beach located in Margherita di Savoia in the Puglia region of Italy. The bathing water is classified as marine-coastal and covers an area of 0.241 km². The Ofanto River basin is predominantly used for agriculture and has a markedly torrential regime with significant flooding in autumn and winter and very low water levels in summer. Water quality has been classified as Excellent for the period 2017–2020.

Marine-coastal water body. The area covers 0.241 km². The Ofanto River basin includes the main course of the river and its tributaries, the Marana Capacciotti and Torrente Locone. The river has a markedly torrential regime with significant floods in autumn and winter caused by precipitation and very low water levels in summer.

Location

Margherita di Savoia, Barletta-Andria-Trani province, Puglia region, Italy. The bathing area is located 100 metres downstream from the mouth of the Ofanto River.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2017–2020). Identified pollution sources include treated wastewater discharge from a treatment plant with a submarine outfall pipe serving civil and productive settlements, and the mouth of the Ofanto River itself. No specific monitoring or mitigation measures are currently active. No short-duration pollution events were recorded over the last four years.

Risks

Treated urban wastewater discharged via submarine outfall pipe and direct discharge from the Ofanto River mouth. The area is not characterized by algal blooms or cyanobacterial proliferation. No cases of potentially toxic algal strains have been detected in the last four years.
