Foce Rio Palmero is a sandy bathing area located in Alassio, Liguria, with some rocks near the mouth of the Rio Palmero stream. The beach is in a mountainous coastal region with low stability. The bathing water was classified as excellent between 2008 and 2011.

Coastal water body of the Rio Palmero mouth, part of the Laigueglia-Albenga water body. The bathing area covers 0.764 square kilometres. The water is characterized by alluvial plain geography at the stream mouth.

Location

Alassio, Savona Province, Liguria, Italy. The bathing area is at the mouth of Rio Palmero. Private beach facilities and accommodation structures are present in the area.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008–2011). A coastal treatment plant at Località S. Anna treats wastewater affecting the bathing water. No specific monitoring measures or assessments are currently active.

Risks

A modelling approach for characterizing short-duration pollution events and anomalous situations is under development. The Ligurian Sea is not characterized by cyanobacterial blooms due to predominantly oligotrophic conditions. No cases of potentially toxic algal strain proliferation have been recorded in the past four years.
