Foce Rio Tortore is a sandy bathing area located at the mouth of the Rio Tortore river in the Liguria region. The beach is situated in an alluvial plain environment with a characteristic sandy composition. The area has been classified as excellent quality for bathing water from 2008 to 2011. Private beach facilities and other accommodation structures are present in the zone.

Coastal waters in a mountainous region with low stability (CWA3 classification). The bathing area extends 1,004 units and is located at the mouth of the Rio Tortore river in an alluvial plain.

Location

Alassio, Savona province, Liguria region, Italy. The bathing area is identified as Foce Rio Tortore within the water body known as Laigueglia-Albenga.

Facilities

Private beach establishments with associated services. Animals are permitted in the area.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008-2011). The Ligurian Sea is not characterised by cyanobacterial blooms due to predominantly oligotrophic conditions. No cases of potentially toxic algal strain proliferation have been recorded in the last 4 years.

Risks

An emergency discharge conduit at Capo S. Croce and the river mouth are identified as potential pollution sources. A modelling approach for characterising short-term pollution events and anomalous situations is under development.
