Foce Torrente Prino is a sandy beach located in the mouth inlet of the Prino stream, bordered by artificial structures. The beach is situated in an urbanized context west of the centre of Imperia Porto Maurizio. The area is backed by olive groves and terraced vineyards upstream.

Water

Coastal water body. The bathing water area covers 0.279 km² and is situated at the mouth of Torrente Prino stream within an artificial inlet. The area is characterized as mountain foothills with low stability (CWA3).

Location

Imperia, Liguria, Italy. The beach is positioned west of Imperia Porto Maurizio town centre. Public parking is available. The state highway SS1 and railway line are located upstream.

Facilities

Free unequipped beach. Tourist and recreational services available. Public parking provided.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (evaluation period 2021-2024). A sewage pipe located approximately 40 m west of the monitoring station discharges offshore at approximately 250 m from the shore. Port-related pollution sources are present from the Porto Maurizio tourist marina located approximately 2.6 km east of the sampling station.

Risks

Heavy precipitation can increase stream flow rates and potentially transport sewage downstream to the bathing water. Ostreopsis ovata microalgae proliferation has been observed in Liguria over the past decade. The bathing water is included in monitoring area 3 of the regional Ostreopsis control network. Inhalation effects from Ostreopsis ovata aerosol are temporary and reversible, causing respiratory issues and possible fever in sensitive individuals.
