The Tannenhausen leisure facility is a former gravel pit lake located north of Aurich on a glacial ridge. It has been developed into a popular recreational area in recent years. The lake is fed by groundwater with no surface inflows or outflows. The white gravel beach has earned it the local nickname 'Rimini of East Frisia'. The bathing site is popular with both tourists and residents due to excellent water quality. A holiday home area with traditional East Frisian-style houses is situated directly on the lake. A water skiing and wakeboarding facility has operated there since 2017.
