Frente Urbana Sul is an extensive beach stretching approximately 1500 metres from the mouth of the Ave river to the North Urban Front. It experiences strong intensive use integrated into the urban fabric of Vila do Conde. The beach encompasses six beach concessions: Olinda, Turismo, Praia Azul, Ladeira, Forno, and Srª da Guia.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified according to Decreto-Lei 135/2009 as amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012. Monitoring is conducted every 2 weeks. No days of bathing restriction due to short-term pollution events were recorded during the 2024 bathing season. Potential microbiological pollution sources include fecal contamination from the Ave river or the fishing port. Short-term pollution events are unlikely but may occur due to excessive river flow during rainfall or ship spills.

Risks

Potential fecal contamination from the Ave river or fishing port. Cyanobacteria proliferation potential is low. Macroalgae proliferation potential is moderate. Phytoplankton proliferation potential is low.
