Zona Urbana Sul II is an urban beach with intensive use, encompassing three beach fronts: Redonda/Leixão, Loulé, and Redonda. It features an extensive sand strip bordered by an urban sidewalk. The beach is located in the municipality of Póvoa de Varzim in the Ave river basin.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified according to Decreto-Lei n.º 135/2009 (amended by Decreto-Lei n.º 113/2012). Sampling frequency is weekly. No days of bathing restrictions due to short-term pollution occurred during the 2024 bathing season. Potential microbiological pollution sources include faecal contamination from the rainwater network or the fishing harbor.

Risks

Short-term pollution is unlikely but may occur due to rainwater network contamination or ship spills. Cyanobacteria proliferation potential is moderate with historical occurrence of blooms. Macroalgae and phytoplankton proliferation potential is low with no historical occurrence.
