Fuglsø Strand is a bathing beach located in Ebeltoft Vig near Fuglsø Hede in Denmark, approximately 300 metres long with a gravel and stony beach surface. The beach is relatively shallow with a depth of 2 metres at a distance of 30 to 50 metres from the shore. The water is classified as excellent quality and is suitable for swimming, fishing, surfing, and kayaking.

Water

Coastal water body in Ebeltoft Vig with a beach width of approximately 25–30 metres. The seabed consists of gravel and stones with minor sand deposits. Water depth reaches 2 metres at 30–50 metres from the shore. Salinity approximately 25 ‰. Water temperature varies between 17 °C and 22 °C during the bathing season.

Location

The beach is accessed via a 125-metre walking path from a car park at Fuglsø Hede, with approximately 50 parking spaces available. The beach is located in Syddjurs Municipality near Ebeltoft.

Facilities

Parking (approximately 50 spaces), benches, lifesaving equipment, public toilets. A bathing pier is being considered.

Season

Official monitoring occurs from 1 May to 15 September.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent. Monitoring occurs regularly during the bathing season from 1 May to 15 September with water samples analysed and results posted at the beach. Identified potential pollution sources include faecal contamination from dispersed settlements, manure spillage, and emptying of boat toilet tanks; blue-green algae; red algae (Ceratium species); kelp; oil spills from ships; and pollen accumulations.

Risks

Moderate risk of large quantities of kelp washing ashore during the bathing season. Low risk of faecal contamination from boat toilet tank emptying. Very low risk of blue-green algal blooms due to high salinity. Low risk of other microalgal blooms. Low risk of chemical contamination from ships. Pollen accumulations are a recurring phenomenon that can reduce water quality.
