Glykó Neró is an artificial crescent-shaped bathing beach located in Protaras, Cyprus. The beach features a sandy substrate with rocky formations at the northern and southern ends. The beach has an average width of 11 metres and is 85 metres long, with simple shelters and a limited number of loungers available. The surrounding area consists of agricultural land with minimal built infrastructure.

Water

Mixed substrate with rocks and sand. Average water depth: 2 metres. Maximum water depth: 3.5 metres. The southeastern arm of the crescent features an artificial structure of unknown purpose at its end. The bathing area is part of the Protaras water body (CY_25-C3) within the Cyprus river basin district.

Location

Located in Protaras, Ammochostos District, administered by the Municipality of Paralimni. Coordinates: 34.005156°E, 35.063833°N (WGS84). The beach is publicly managed.

Facilities

Shelters and a limited number of umbrellas and loungers are available. No public facilities such as changing rooms, toilets, or showers currently exist, although these are planned in the beach management plan. No lifeguard services are present. Beach cleaning is managed by the Municipality of Paralimni.

Water Quality

Water quality is not monitored for this bathing area. However, it is located adjacent to other monitored bathing areas with a classification of excellent water quality. The area is susceptible to nitrate pollution. Low risk of eutrophication from macroalgae and phytoplankton.

Risks

Negligible risk of short-term pollution. Potential pollution sources include irrigation water runoff from nearby agricultural areas and passing vessels.
