Kappari is a bathing area consisting of three coves with rocky substrate composed of limestone sandstone and chalky marl. Three small beaches form within the coves, with sand-grain composition on the northern and southern beaches and purely rocky formations in the central cove. A cliff ranging from 10 to 18 meters in height rises above the beaches. The area supports scattered Mediterranean scrub vegetation and some salt marshes, with tourist accommodation including rental apartments in the northern and central sections.

Water

Coastal water body (Protaras). Beach length: 780 meters. Average water depth: 1 meter. Maximum water depth: 3 meters. The bathing area comprises three coves with natural sandy and rocky shorelines.

Location

Kappari is located in the Paralimni Municipality, Famagusta District, Cyprus. Coordinates: 34.0093°E, 35.0596°N (ETRS89). The northern cove provides the primary access point with a ramp for disabled access and children's carriages.

Facilities

The northern cove (main beach) provides toilets (connected to septic tanks), changing rooms, lifeguard station, and disabled access ramp. The southern cove is accessed by a wooden ladder and has no facilities. Waste collection bins are available, maintained by Paralimni Municipality.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data since 2004. The water body is in good ecological status. Monitoring data from 2004–2007 showed nitrate concentrations and chlorophyll-a levels below 2 mg/l and 2 μg/l respectively. No eutrophication was recorded during this period. Low risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton development.

Risks

Possible pollution source from passing recreational vessels. Possible short-term pollution from malfunction of sewage systems in coastal tourist developments. No recorded short-term pollution incidents during the 2008–2010 bathing seasons. Risk of short-term pollution is negligible.
