Hønsinge Lyng is a fine sandy beach located west of Hønsinge and south of Korevlerne in Odsherred Municipality, Denmark. The beach is approximately 250 metres long with a sand area about 20 metres wide. The bathing water is classified as excellent quality based on data from 2017-2020. The water is brackish, consisting of a mixture of salt and fresh water. The beach is situated in a nature-protected area with summer houses in the surrounding landscape.

Water

Brackish water (mixture of salt and fresh water). The beach extends approximately 250 metres in length with a sand area about 20 metres wide. Water depth reaches 0.5 metres within 50 metres of the sampling point and 2 metres depth within 225 metres. Current direction is variable but typically flows southward.

Location

West of Hønsinge village, south of Korevlerne. Access via Korevlevej road. A car park with toilets and waste bins is located at the road end, with a path leading to the beach.

Water Quality

Classified as excellent quality under BEK 917 (based on 2017-2020 data). The bathing water is occasionally affected by wastewater discharge. The nearest registered discharge outlets are 400 metres north and approximately 3 kilometres south of the beach. Pollution duration in summer typically lasts 1-3 days depending on weather, current, and wind conditions. Risk of cyanobacteria and phytoplankton growth is low; risk of macroalgae growth is moderate.

Risks

Occasional wastewater contamination from discharge outlets located 400 metres north and 3 kilometres south of the beach. Swimming is not recommended if water clarity is poor and feet cannot be seen at knee depth. Macroalgae growth risk is moderate. Bathing is advised against in proximity to algae washed ashore due to potential toxins and persistent bacteria. Occasional occurrences of broken glass, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occur.
