Høve strand is a fine sand beach with scattered belts of large stones located in the northern part of Asnæs, Denmark. The beach is approximately 700 metres long and consists of a sand and stone area about 15 metres wide. The water is brackish, a mixture of salt and fresh water. The entire area around the beach is forested. The bathing water is classified as Good based on data from 2020–2023.

Water

Brackish water. At the sampling point, approximately 14 metres distance to 0.5 metre depth, 27 metres to 1 metre depth, and 375 metres to 2 metres depth. Current direction is predominantly from the west and northwest.

Location

The beach is accessed by road at Høve Stræde 15, where a parking area, picnic tables, and information boards are located. A small path between large stones leads to the bathing area. The beach has a large grass area with picnic tables, waste bins, and a fire pit.

Season

Bathing water is monitored minimum four times per year. Classification is revised annually in October.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Good (based on 2020–2023 data). Several exceedances have been recorded: 2023 had no exceedances; 2022 had a few days with minor exceedances; 2021 saw a major pollution event in early July leading to a swimming ban, with widespread contamination detected in Nekselø Bay and Sejerø Bay in August 2021; 2019 had a swimming advisory issued in early July; 2016 had two short-duration swimming advisories. Pollution is believed to originate from discharges west of the bathing area but may have other causes, including strong winds and periodic use as a horse bathing beach. Heavy rainfall can partially explain some pollution events. Summer pollution duration is typically short (1–3 days depending on weather, currents, and wind).

Risks

Low risk of cyanobacteria. Medium risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton growth. Swimming is not advised if water is unclear and feet cannot be seen at knee depth. Children should not play or bathe near algae washed up on shore. Children should not play near stream outlets on the beach due to potential wastewater contamination, especially during heavy rainfall. Occasional pollution from glass fragments, waste, and chemical contamination including oil spills has been reported.
