Lumsås Sønderstrand is a fine sand beach approximately 400 meters long located in Sejerøbugten, south of Lumsås in Denmark. The beach features a sandy area about 20 meters wide. The water is brackish, a mixture of salt and fresh water. The bathing water has been classified as excellent quality based on sampling data from the last four years. The beach is situated in a summer house area.

Water

Brackish water in Sejerøbugten. At the sampling point, the water reaches approximately 0.5 meters depth at 20 meters from shore, 1 meter depth at 27 meters from shore, and 2 meters depth at 190 meters from shore. Current direction varies but most commonly comes from the south or north.

Location

Located south of Lumsås, accessed via Lumsås Strandvej at number 19, with a small road leading to number 21 and the bathing site. A parking area is available approximately 500 meters away.

Facilities

Information signage on the beach regarding water classification and bathing water description. Monitoring conducted minimum four times per year.

Water Quality

Classified as excellent quality under regulation BEK 917, based on four years of sampling data. Bathing water analyses in August 2021 showed widespread pollution in Nekselø Bay and Sejerø Bay, with bathing discouraged at that time. Multiple registered discharge outlets near the bathing site receive wastewater from scattered settlements. Pollution duration in summer typically short (1-3 days) depending on weather, current, and wind conditions.

Risks

Fecal pollution from registered discharge outlets receiving wastewater from scattered settlements. Risk of cyanobacteria and phytoplankton growth is low. Risk of macroalgae growth is medium. Bathing is discouraged if water clarity is poor and feet cannot be seen at knee depth. Glass fragments, waste, and chemical pollution including oil spills occasionally occur. Residents are advised not to allow children to play or bathe near washed-up algae.
