Veddinge Strand

Veddinge Strand is a fine sandy beach approximately 250 metres long located in the northern part of Fårevejle. The beach features sand with scattered large stones and is situated in a nature-protected area. The bathing water is classified as excellent quality based on data from 2018–2022. The water is brackish, a mixture of salt and fresh water, with currents typically flowing from the west.

Water

Brackish water (mixture of salt and fresh water) in Fårevejle. At the sampling point, the water reaches a depth of 0.5 metres at approximately 10 metres offshore, 1 metre depth at 20 metres offshore, and 2 metres depth at 75 metres offshore. Current direction is typically from the west.

Location

Northern part of Fårevejle, accessed via Strandbakken. A parking area with toilets, waste bins, and waste sorting facilities is located just before house number 30 on Strandbakken, with a path continuing to the water.

Water Quality

Classified as excellent quality under Danish regulation BEK 917, based on 2018–2022 data. Water quality testing in August 2021 detected widespread pollution in Nekselø Bay and Sejerø Bay, resulting in swimming being advised against at the beach. Historically, exceedances at Veddinge Strand have been few and minor. Large rainfall is identified as a probable cause of exceedances, with contamination typically lasting 1–3 days during summer depending on weather, currents, and wind conditions.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria and phytoplankton growth is low. Risk of macroalgae growth is medium. Bathing is advised against if water clarity is poor and feet cannot be seen when water reaches knee depth. Several registered outlets near the bathing site discharge wastewater from scattered dwellings, summer houses, and possibly drainage from crop rotation fields. Glass fragments, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occasionally occur.
