Hundige Havnebad is a bathing site located in Hundige Harbour, part of the Køge Bay Beach Park in the northern section of Køge Bay, Denmark. The bathing area is situated in the harbour basin at Hejren in Hundige Havn. Water depth exceeds 3–4 metres with a sandy bottom and occasional stones. The site is used primarily for winter bathing by arrangement with Greve Marina.

Water

Salt water body in Køge Bay with relatively low salinity of approximately 1%. Water depth greater than 3–4 metres. Sandy bottom with occasional stones. Current direction in the upper part of Køge Bay is highly variable and wind-dependent but rarely strong or dangerous for swimmers.

Location

Hundige Havn, Greve Municipality, Denmark, located at Hejren 19–21. Large parking facilities are available in the Hundige harbour area.

Water Quality

Bathing water quality classified as 'excellent' based on water analyses from summer 2018. Potential fecal pollution sources include overflows from pond systems at Strandparken, discharge from Lille Vejleå and Store Vejleå, overflow to Olsbækken from KLAR-Forsyning, BIOFOS discharge, overflow in Brøndby Harbour, and discharge into Køge Bay. Swimming is advised against for at least three days after heavy rainfall occurring 1–3 times annually, or if visibility depth is less than 1 metre.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) during particular weather conditions, typically affecting the beach every 4–5 years and usually for brief periods. Cyanobacteria can occur in toxic variants; dogs should not drink contaminated water if algae is present. Macroalgae (seaweed) can accumulate at the water's edge, promoting bacterial growth and prolonging survival of fecal bacteria; the beach is cleaned of seaweed throughout the bathing season. Presence of sailing boats in the harbour requires vigilance. Light oil films can occur due to harbour location. Fytoplankton is not considered a health problem at this site.
