Hyby Strand

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Hyby Strand is a Blue Flag beach located on the northern part of Fredericia's east-facing coast along the Little Belt strait. The primary bathing area extends 200-300 metres with a beach width of 10-40 metres. The beach features stone breakwaters for coastal protection and a grassy recreational area near the parking lot. Hyby Strand is child-friendly with fine sand and relatively shallow water.

Water

The Little Belt strait. Salinity approximately 20-22 ‰. Current direction is primarily determined by wind direction, with the northbound current being stronger than the southbound current throughout the year. Water depth is relatively shallow. Fine sandy bottom.

Location

North of Fredericia, along the northern part of the Little Belt. Access is via Lillebælts Allé, which has a small parking area. Bicycle and pedestrian access is available via Strandstien.

Facilities

Blue Flag beach. Equipped with bathing pier, toilet facilities, rescue equipment, bonfire area, tables and benches. Dogs are prohibited from 1 June to 15 September. Dogs must be leashed from 1 April to 30 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as 'excellent', the best classification possible. Classification based on the last 4 years of bathing water analyses. Water quality is analysed 10 times during the bathing season with results published at the beach and on the municipality's website. Risk of faecal pollution is low.

Risks

Risk of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) is generally small but can occur during summer periods with prolonged heat. Risk of seaweed accumulation at the water's edge is low during summer. Risk of plant plankton blooms is low. Weever fish (fjæsing) may be present in shallow water during summer months; treading on their venomous spines can be painful. Sea stingers (jellyfish) can occur in the northern Little Belt during summer, particularly in July and August. Glass shards, litter, and discarded objects, as well as chemical pollution including oil spills, may occur at the beach.
