Østerstrand – Cirkelbroen is a 3 km long beach located behind Fredericia Vold, approximately 700 m from Fredericia city centre. The east-facing beach borders Lillebælt and runs from Hyby Strand in the north to the area near Fredericia Dame Roklub in the south. The beach features a sandy bottom with water approximately 2 m deep extending 100 m from the shore. It is designated as a Blue Flag beach and serves as an important recreational area for both residents and visitors.

Water

Lillebælt strait. Sandy bottom with water approximately 2 m deep extending 100 m from the shore. Salinity approximately 20–22 ‰. Current direction primarily determined by wind direction, with northbound current generally stronger than southbound current year-round. Powerful currents can occur through Snævningen in Lillebælt.

Østerstrand – Cirkelbroen is located in Fredericia, Denmark, behind Fredericia Vold, 700 m from Fredericia city centre. Access is available via Øster Voldgade with parking along the road, or by a narrow asphalt road leading to a parking area at the beach. Bicycle and pedestrian access is available via Strandstien.

Facilities

Beach café, bathing piers, toilet and changing facilities, showers, lifesaving equipment, tables and benches. Disabled access and facilities provided. Havfruefløjterne facility available for guests with visual impairment. Lifeguards present during summer holiday period. Dogs prohibited 1 June to 15 September; leashes required 1 April to 30 September.

Water Quality

Water classified as 'excellent', the highest bathing water quality classification. Based on four years of bathing water analyses. Water quality is monitored 10 times during the bathing season with results published at the beach and on the municipality website. Risk of faecal contamination assessed as low.

Risks

Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) risk generally low but can occur during prolonged summer heat. Seaweed (macroalgae) may occur at the water's edge with low risk in summer. Greater weever fish (fjæsing) present in shallow water during summer months; stepping on venomous spines can be painful. Sea lice (brandmænd) risk in northern Lillebælt during summer, particularly July and August. Glass, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills possible. Overflow from combined sewer system during heavy rainfall. Stilt algae may degrade fish gills causing fish mortality.
