International Camping Ispra

Italy Lake 1 - Excellent

International Camping Ispra is a bathing area located on the south-eastern shore of Lake Maggiore near the town of Ispra in Lombardy. The beach is a grassy, rocky area with restricted access reserved for campground users. The beach spans 40 metres in width and is situated at an altitude of 195 metres above sea level.

Water

Lake Maggiore. The bathing area covers 0.160 square kilometres and is situated at 195 metres above sea level. The water basin is part of the Ticino River system.

Location

Ispra, Lombardy, Province of Varese, on the south-eastern shore of Lake Maggiore, a few kilometres from the town centre. Parking is available within the camping facility.

Facilities

Parking, toilets, bar, restaurant, barbecue area, electric vehicle and bicycle charging stations within the camping facility. Animals permitted only on leash.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is still under evaluation. Monitoring by the Pallanza buoy (CNR and ARPA) tracks pathogenic bacteria including Escherichia coli, intestinal Enterococci, and cyanobacteria. The treatment of wastewater is managed by a treatment plant in Ispra (C.na Antonietta) serving agglomeration AG0120840, which complies with discharge limits prescribed by regulations. No exceedances of cyanobacteria thresholds have been detected over the past four years.

Risks

Possible pollution from unfavourable meteorological conditions and severe weather events. Short-duration pollution events may include land runoff, water retention, and accidental or unauthorised discharges of liquid waste or pollutants. Cyanobacteria are identified as potentially toxic species within the phytoplankton.
