Isolino-Fondotoce is a sandy beach with a gentle slope located within the Fondotoce natural reserve on Lake Maggiore. The beach extends to the mouth of the Toce River and is situated within an extra-hotel structure. The bathing water is classified as Excellent based on routine monitoring from 2020 to 2023.

Lake Maggiore (Lago Maggiore). The bathing area extends to the mouth of the Toce River. Area extension: 0.936 km².

Location

Verbania, Verbano Cusio Ossola Province, Piedmont Region. The sampling point is located within the Fondotoce natural reserve in a private-access extra-hotel facility. Beach width is 619 meters. Altitude: 197 meters above sea level.

Facilities

Supermarket, bar, swimming pool, tobacconist, newspapers. Restaurant, internet point and wireless internet. April to September: daytime entertainment and on-site doctor. Playground, sports field, table tennis, windsurfing rental, pedal boats, canoes and bicycle rental. Animals allowed on leash.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Based on 18 routine samples from 2020–2023. Escherichia coli 90th percentile: 14.6 MPN/100 ml; 95th percentile: 24.3 MPN/100 ml. Enterococci 90th percentile: 26.7 MPN/100 ml; 95th percentile: 44.8 MPN/100 ml. Wastewater treatment plant located approximately 7 km from the monitoring point.

Risks

Intense precipitation can trigger overflow structures. Accidental failures of lifting systems can introduce untreated sewage into the lake. Possible pollutant source: inadequate management of the sewage network. Inflows from the Mergozzo lake canal to the northwest, a stream tangent to the campground to the north, and the Toce River mouth to the south.
