Via Repubblica Ossola is a public sandy beach located in the Feriolo fraction of Baveno on Lake Maggiore in northern Italy. The beach extends approximately 123 meters in width and is situated at an altitude of 205 meters. It is classified as a poor quality bathing water based on routine sampling from 2021–2024. Animals are permitted on the beach if kept on a leash.

Lake Maggiore. The bathing area covers 0.123 km² and lies within a large river system influenced by the Toce River.

Location

Located in Feriolo, a fraction of Baveno, in the Verbano Cusio Ossola province of Piedmont, Italy. The beach is situated southwest of the Toce River mouth. Contact: Municipality of Baveno, Piazza Dante Alighieri, telephone 0323 912311.

Water Quality

Classification: Poor. Based on 21 routine samples from 2021–2024: Escherichia coli 90th percentile 935.5 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile 2323.7 MPN/100 ml; Enterococci 90th percentile 188.8 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile 410.4 MPN/100 ml. A wastewater treatment facility is located 5 km from the sampling point; a pumping station is within 200 meters.

Risks

The Toce River mouth and Stronetta stream inlet to the north may carry microbiological contaminants. Scattered houses to the north may not be connected to the sewerage network. Intense precipitation can trigger overflow structures, and accidental failures of pumping stations can discharge untreated sewage into the lake. Inadequate management of the sewerage network is a potential pollution source.
