Lido Toce

Italy Lake 1 - Excellent

Lido Toce is a sandy beach with a gentle slope located within the Fondotoce natural reserve in Baveno, Piedmont. The beach spans 124 metres and is situated south of the Toce River mouth on Lake Maggiore. The bathing water has been classified as Excellent based on routine monitoring data from 2020–2023.

Lake Maggiore. The area covers 0.124 km². The water body is influenced by the Toce River, a large watercourse that flows into Lake Maggiore north of the monitoring point, and by the Stronetta stream, located approximately 200 metres away.

Location

Baveno, Verbano Cusio Ossola Province, Piedmont, Italy. The beach is located within the Fondotoce natural reserve south of the Toce River mouth, at an altitude of 197 metres above sea level. Contact: Municipality of Baveno, Piazza Dante Alighieri, tel. 0323-912311.

Water Quality

Excellent classification based on 19 routine samples collected during 2020–2023. Escherichia coli: 90th percentile 60.2 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile 120.2 MPN/100 ml. Enterococci: 90th percentile 62.0 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile 119.1 MPN/100 ml. The water body is subject to medium pressure classification with large river inflow potential.

Risks

The Toce River and Stronetta stream are potential sources of contaminants, particularly during heavy rainfall. Overflow structures and accidental failures of sewage lift stations may introduce untreated effluent into the lake. Heavy precipitation can trigger overflow mechanisms in the drainage system.
