Kastella Lemesou is an extensive sandy beach located between Onisilos and Pervola beaches in the Lemesos district. The beach is separated from the coastal road by a pedestrian walkway that connects neighbouring beaches in the area. A recreation space and a few luxury residences are situated along the beach. The water body is classified as Eastern Lemesos and is part of a coastal body in good ecological condition.

Water

Coastal water body named Eastern Lemesos. Beach length is 890 metres. Average water depth is 1.5 metres with a maximum depth of 3 metres. The seabed of the coastal zone is sandy with uniform grain composition. Breakwaters are constructed approximately 130 metres from the shoreline, arranged parallel to the coast. The drainage basin is hydrological basin 9, with mean elevation of 438.2 metres and mean annual rainfall of 534.7 millimetres.

Location

Located in the Lemesos district, within the Agiou Tychona community. The beach lies between Onisilos and Pervola beaches, separated from the coastal road by a pedestrian walkway.

Facilities

Public facilities available including disabled access. Toilet facilities provided through the recreation space on the beach. Waste collection bins located along the entire beach length, maintained by the Agiou Tychona Community Council. Summer services include beach loungers and umbrellas. Lifeguards and lifesaving equipment are available from 10:00 to 17:00. The beach holds Blue Flag status.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data. The coastal water body is in good ecological condition. Monitoring has been conducted for many years and formal reporting began with Cyprus's accession to the European Union in 2004. One short-term pollution incident was recorded between 2008 and 2010, on 5 May 2009, attributed to storm weather conditions.

Risks

Moderate risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton development. Short-term pollution risk is low. Possible sources include rainwater runoff from the densely urbanised terrestrial zone and passing vessels. Short-term pollution events may last 1–2 days with an expected frequency of once during the bathing season.
