Onisilos is a sandy beach located between Armonia and Kastella beaches in the Limassol area. The beach extends 340 meters and features a semi-natural shoreline with breakwaters positioned parallel to the coast approximately 150 meters from the waterline. The beach is bordered by a pedestrian promenade connecting neighboring beaches, and the area includes recreational space, luxury residences, a hotel facility, and a sailing club. Vegetation consists of ornamental plants, palms, and eucalyptus trees.

Water

Coastal water body named Limassol East. The beach has an average water depth of 1.5 meters and a maximum depth of 3 meters. The shoreline substrate is sandy with uniform grain composition. The beach length is 340 meters.

Location

The beach is located in the Limassol District, within the Ayios Tychonas Community. The monitoring point is positioned at coordinates 33.1183°E, 34.7057°N where the largest concentration of swimmers is located.

Facilities

Public facilities are available to serve the public. Toilets are accessible through the recreational area facility on the beach. Waste collection bins are positioned along the entire beach length, maintained by the Ayios Tychonas Community Council. Lifeguards and rescue equipment are provided from 10:00 to 17:00 during summer. Seasonal services including sun loungers and umbrellas are offered. The beach holds Blue Flag status.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on historical monitoring data. The coastal water body is in good ecological status. Monitoring under EU Directive 76/160/EEC began in 2004 when Cyprus joined the European Union.

Risks

Moderate risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton development exists based on pollution sources in the terrestrial and marine influence zones. Short-term pollution risk is low. Recorded short-term pollution incidents occurred on 28 May 2008 and 5 May 2009, with the 2009 incident attributed to storm conditions. Possible sources of short-term pollution include stormwater runoff and passing vessels.
