Aphrodite

Cyprus Coastal 1 - Excellent

Aphrodite is a sandy beach located between Harmony and Vouppe beaches in the Limassol area of Cyprus. The beach is 300 meters long and features a promenade connecting neighboring beaches, along with recreational spaces, dining facilities, and a hotel unit. The vegetation consists of ornamental plants, palm trees, and eucalyptus trees. The beach has been designated with the Blue Flag status.

Water

Coastal water body named Limassol East (CY_14-C2). Sandy bottom with uniform grain composition. Average water depth is 1.5 meters, maximum depth is 3 meters. Breakwaters are constructed approximately 150 meters offshore parallel to the coastline. The shoreline is semi-natural.

Location

Located in the Community of Agios Tyhonas, Limassol District, Cyprus. Coordinates: 33.1281°E, 34.7078°N (ETRS89). A pedestrian promenade connects the beach to neighboring beaches in the area.

Facilities

Public facilities for visitor services. Toilets available at public facilities and hotel accommodations. Waste collection bins throughout the beach, maintained by the Community Council of Agios Tyhonas. Summer services include beach loungers and umbrellas. Lifeguards and lifesaving equipment available from 10:00 to 17:00. Blue Flag designation.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data. The associated coastal water body is in good ecological status. One isolated pollution incident occurred in 2004 caused by a passing ship. From 2008 to 2010, two short-term pollution incidents were recorded (5 May 2009 and 4 May 2010), attributed to weather conditions and a passing vessel respectively.

Risks

Moderate risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton development. Possible sources of short-term pollution include malfunctioning sewage systems, storm water runoff, and passing vessels. Low probability of short-term pollution events, occurring approximately once during the bathing season with duration of 1–2 days.
