Katsarka is a wide rocky beach with small sandy sections in a few locations, situated in Agia Napa on the east coast of Cyprus. The beach is 290 metres long with an average water depth of 0.7 metres and maximum depth of 2 metres. A pedestrian walkway runs along the beach, separating it from residential and hotel facilities inland. Vegetation is limited, consisting of scattered low shrubs and saltbushes, with some ornamental plantings including conifers and palms.

Coastal bathing water body in the Agia Napa water body (CY_24-C3). Beach length is 290 metres. Average water depth is 0.7 metres. Maximum water depth is 2 metres. The shoreline is naturally rocky.

Location

Katsarka is located in Agia Napa municipality in Famagusta Province, Cyprus. Coordinates: 33.9901E, 34.9847N (ETRS89).

Facilities

Public toilets, changing rooms, showers. Umbrellas and sunbeds are available. Waste bins are provided. Lifeguards with lifesaving equipment operate from 10:00 to 18:00. The beach holds Blue Flag status. The municipality of Agia Napa is responsible for beach cleaning. Maximum daily bather capacity is 550.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data since 2004. The coastal body in which this bathing water is located is in good ecological condition. No eutrophication from macroalgae or phytoplankton was recorded during the 2004–2007 monitoring period. A moderate risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton development is estimated due to recorded instances of Cladophora spp in the adjacent fishing harbour.

Risks

A small risk of short-term pollution events exists. Possible sources include stormwater runoff and passing vessels. One short-term pollution incident was recorded between 2008 and 2010 (1 September 2009). During the swimming season, such incidents occur approximately once with a duration of 1–2 days.
