Pantachou is a wide sandy beach located in a natural large bay east of Agia Napa marina in Cyprus. The beach features some ornamental vegetation and palm trees from adjacent hotels and experiences significant tourist development. It is designated with the Blue Flag status.

Water

Mediterranean Sea bay (Agia Napa water body). Beach length: 780 m. Average water depth: 0.8 m. Maximum water depth: 2.5 m. Sandy shoreline with natural coastal zone.

Location

Agia Napa municipality, Famagusta district, Cyprus. The beach is situated east of Agia Napa marina. Coordinates: 34.0061°E, 34.9838°N (ETRS89). Public car parking and facilities are available.

Facilities

Public toilets and changing rooms. Umbrellas and sunbeds available for rent. Waste collection bins. Lifeguard service with rescue equipment available 10:00–18:00. Blue Flag designation. Water sports services available in the central beach area.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data. The coastal water body is in good ecological status. Monitoring data from 2004–2007 showed nitrate concentrations below 2 mg/l and chlorophyll-a below 2 μg/l at the nearby monitoring station. No eutrophication was observed during 2004–2007 monitoring period. Moderate risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton development identified, with occasional Cladophora spp. observed in the fishing harbor area in 2008.

Risks

Occasional brief pollution events recorded (2 incidents between 2008–2010). Small risk of brief pollution from passing and moored recreation vessels, fishing harbor operations, water sports activities, storm water runoff, and potential malfunctions of sewage systems in coastal developments. Ephemeral macroalga Cladophora spp. observed in the fishing harbor area.
