Batheia Gonia is a sandy beach located in a natural rocky cove in the Agia Napa area of Cyprus. The beach is 500 metres long with an average water depth of 1 metre and maximum depth of 3 metres. The shoreline is separated from the interior by a promenade, with tourist development including houses, dining facilities, and a hotel complex nearby. The beach has been awarded the Blue Flag designation.

Water

Coastal bathing water body named Agia Napa (CY_24-C3). Sandy beach with rocky substrate in the nearshore zone. Beach length: 500 metres. Average water depth: 1 metre. Maximum water depth: 3 metres. Maximum daily bather capacity: 1,800 persons.

Location

Agia Napa municipality, Famagusta district, Cyprus. Coordinates: 33.9794°E, 34.9869°N (ETRS89). The monitoring point is located at the area of highest bather density.

Facilities

Lifeguards and lifesaving equipment available from 10:00 to 18:00 during summer. Sunbeds and umbrellas available at the central section during summer. Waste collection bins along the entire beach. Blue Flag designation. Water sports centre operates at the western end of the beach.

Season

2004–2010 monitoring period documented. Current monitoring follows the 76/160/EEC Directive framework.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data since 2004. The coastal water body is in good ecological status. No eutrophication events were recorded at any monitoring stations during 2004–2007. Moderate risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton development has been identified, with isolated occurrences of Cladophora spp. recorded in the broader area.

Risks

Moderate risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton development. Negligible risk of short-term pollution. Potential sources include passing and moored recreational vessels and possible malfunction of sewage systems in nearby coastal developments.
