Kyndeløse Sydmark is a 400-metre-long bathing beach located on Isefjorden near Kyndeløse and Kirke Hyllinge in Denmark. The southern part of the beach consists of large stones with a bathing bridge, while the northern section transitions to smaller stones and is designated for naturist use. The beach is 15–20 metres wide and backed by a high cliff that provides shelter from easterly winds. Water quality is classified as excellent, with routine monitoring conducted during the bathing season.

Water

Brackish water body (Isefjorden). Water depth is less than 2 metres within 70 metres of the shore. Current direction is variable, primarily from the south. The seabed consists of medium to large stones.

Location

The beach is located on Isefjorden west of a holiday home area, with Kyndeløse and Kirke Hyllinge as the nearest towns. Access is via Solbakkevej, from which a path leads to the centre of the beach. Parking is available at the access points.

Facilities

Bathing bridges at both the southern and northern ends of the beach. Rubbish bins at both access paths. Rescue ring present. Warning signs erected when water quality deteriorates.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2024: Excellent. Classification is based on routine sampling for indicator bacteria (E. coli and Enterococci) conducted during the bathing season from 2020–2023. Lejre Kommune monitors water quality regularly during the official bathing season. Potential pollution sources include Ejby Å stream (capable of containing high bacterial concentrations during rainfall), combined sewer overflows from Ejby Å, and a potential emergency overflow from Ejby Wastewater Treatment Plant during heavy rainfall.

Risks

Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms. Low risk of macroalgae (seaweed) accumulation. Risk of temporary bacterial contamination from Ejby Å stream and combined sewer system overflows during heavy rainfall, though this is expected to be rare. Potential for sudden contamination from accidents involving pleasure boats, slurry tanks, and sewer lines. Glass and litter may occasionally be present.
