Kysthospitalets Badebro is a stone beach approximately 270 metres long and 10 metres wide, located in Kalundborg, Denmark. The beach features large stone breakwaters and concrete elements along its edge, with a rocky seabed and significant macroalgae growth. Access is between the buildings of Kystparken, though parking is limited to private spaces. The beach is classified as Excellent based on measurements of intestinal enterococci and E. coli from 2018-2021.

Water

Stone beach with rocky seabed. Approximately 270 metres long and 10 metres wide. Current flows predominantly in an easterly direction. Water is discharged via a sea pipeline far out into the bay.

Location

The beach is located in Kalundborg, Denmark. Access is available between the Kystparken buildings. Only private parking spaces are available at the site.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (based on intestinal enterococci and E. coli measurements from 2018-2021). Short-term pollution most commonly results from heavy rainfall causing treatment plant overflow, typically lasting a maximum of 3 days after rainfall stops. Risk of short-term pollution is assessed as minimal despite eastward current direction due to discharge occurring far out in the bay via sea pipeline and very rare overflows at Sdr. Nyrup Treatment Plant.

Risks

Significant macroalgae present. Risk of cyanobacteria blooms and large quantities of seaweed cannot be predicted with certainty. Large quantities of macroalgae at the water's edge pose health risks and can promote bacterial growth, extending survival of faecal bacteria. Glass fragments, waste, and chemical pollution can occasionally occur.
