Plage de l'Hermitage is a beach located on the west coast of Manche department in the commune of Donville. The beach is 300 metres long with a width of 400 metres at high tide coefficient ≥ 95, featuring fine sand and a gentle slope. It is situated between the communes of Breville-sur-Mer to the north, Longueville and Yquelon to the east, and Granville to the south. The beach supports various water activities including swimming, surfing, sailing, and fishing.

Water

Shallow coastal waters of the English Channel with water depth less than 30 metres at the monitored bathing zone. Fine sand beach with a gentle slope.

Location

Located in Donville commune, Manche department, on the west coast facing the English Channel. Parking with over 100 marked spaces is available. A boat launch ramp provides access to the shore. Lifeguards are stationed at the southern end of the beach near Pointe du Lude.

Facilities

Sanitary facilities located at the southern end of the beach on rue de la plage. Lifeguard post at the southern end near Pointe du Lude. Parking with marked spaces exceeding 100 places. Boat launch ramp. Dogs must be kept on a lead on promenades and the beach.

15 June to 15 September

Water Quality

Water quality monitored for Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. Classification historically assessed under Directive 76/160/CEE and updated under Directive 2006/7/CEE with a target of achieving 'sufficient quality' by 2015. Coastal discharges from sewage outfalls PLU7EN and PLU7EN Bis identified as risk factors.

Risks

Potential contamination from domestic wastewater discharges, including collective sewerage systems and non-collective sanitation. Agricultural activities in the catchment area pose diffuse pollution risks. Coastal discharge points are hydrodynamically modelled to assess bacterial flux dispersion.
