Plat Gousset is an emblematic beach located on the west coast of Granville in the Manche department, France. The beach stretches 330 meters in length with a width of 260 meters at high tide and features fine sand and rocks. It is situated just north of Pointe du Roc, outside the Granville-Jullouville bay, and is positioned close to the town centre. The beach has a gentle slope and is bordered by an urban zone with a seawall promenade and rocky cliffs.

Water

Shallow water body (depth less than 30 metres) in the English Channel. Beach area: 330 metres long, 260 metres wide at coefficient ≥95. Fine sand and rock substrate.

Location

Granville, Manche department, west coast of France. Located north of Pointe du Roc. Parking available with over 100 marked spaces.

Facilities

Lifeguard post (Maîtres Nageurs Sauveteurs) with surveillance during bathing season. Sanitary facilities located at the rescue post. Parking with over 100 marked spaces. No access for animals.

15 June to 15 September

Water Quality

The beach is monitored for bathing water quality under European Directive 2006/7/CE. Monitoring includes testing for Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. A vulnerability profile was established to identify and prioritize pollution sources affecting water quality.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include domestic wastewater from collective and non-collective sanitation systems, storm water runoff, agricultural activities, port and mooring zone activities, and mobile home and caravan areas.
