Water quality classification: Excellent. Based on 18 routine samples from 2020–2023. Escherichia coli: 90th percentile 47.0 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile 75.0 MPN/100 ml. Enterococci: 90th percentile 41.8 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile 63.2 MPN/100 ml. Pressure class: None. Urban wastewater from the nearby municipality of Mergozzo is treated by a treatment plant and discharged into the Toce River, not into the lake.

Risks

Intense rainfall may trigger overflow structures and accidental malfunctions of pumping systems can introduce untreated wastewater into the lake. Nearby streams and inadequate sewage network management are potential pollution sources. No cyanobacterial proliferation is known. No macroalgae, phytoplankton, or problematic species proliferation has been detected. No anomalous events have been recorded.
